For all you cardio junkies out there, this blog is for you!
Do lifting weights in the gym intimidate you? Are you one of those people who feel you don’t get a good workout without a good sweat? Are you looking to speed up your metabolic rate, and still keep the cardio element in your workout? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, then keep reading!
Aerobic exercise, also referred to as "cardio", is exercise that requires pumping of oxygenated blood by the heart to deliver oxygen to working muscles. Examples of aerobic exercises include any cardio machines, cycling, swimming, running, walking, hiking, cardio based aerobic classes, the list goes on!
My top 3 aerobic exercises are perfect to reduce body fat, and when paired with an anaerobic element, will help you achieve that goal of being toned!
Riding a bike in a steady state on a flat road is a great way to burn calories and reduce body fat. You can easily turn this in to an anaerobic exercise by taking a cycle class (hills and drills is my favourite!), which will have you building muscle in your lower body. There are many different formats in our group fitness schedule, so you will be sure to find one that fits you best!
Some love the treadmill, some hate it. Try adding in intervals to your treadmill work out next time! My favourite starts with a 5 minute warm up, at a moderate pace (3.5 on most treadmills). From there I alternate between moderate pace for 30 seconds, and then a full on sprint for 30 seconds (turning this aerobic exercise once again in to anaerobic).Everyone’s moderate pace/sprint pace will vary. Try this for a goal of 20 minutes, adjusting your speed as you go if needed.
A Zumba class combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body using principles from aerobic and fitness to achieve cardio and muscle-toning benefits. It is a class that anyone can do (whether you have rhythm or not!) the best part- - - it’s super fun!
Take a look on our app to find a Zumba or cycling classes at a Steve Nash Fitness World near you! Once you select “find a class“ from the home screen, you can also select the “cardio” icon, which will give you even more options to select a class that has a cardio component to it!
