2020 is here, and with the new year comes 365 new opportunities for you to become the best version of yourself! We know that the initial push is always the hardest but it is what sets you up for success. That's why we want to help you start the year off right with setting smarter resolutions!
Check out these 5 tips to help you set your New Year's goals and stick to them more easily!
1. Have an ambitious goal, but start small
One huge mistake that most people make when setting up their New Year's resolutions is starting too big. They set up a goal that is so challenging that they fail to see results and end up giving up.
Being ambitious with your resolutions is not bad, don't get me wrong. The key to success here is to start small and be realistic. How? Break down your big goal into little achievable increments that you can track along the way.
And remember: starting small is not failing! It will make your journey towards your resolutions more manageable by incrementing sustainable habits that will have an impact on your life over time.
2. Plan, plan, plan... and plan
I couldn't stress this enough! Having a goal and breaking it down into smaller increments is important, but you need to know how you are going to get there. After all, failing to plan is planning to fail.
A comprehensive plan should not only tell you what to do to achieve your goals, it should also get you ready to face the tough times during your journey. For example, if you want to lose weight this year, besides planning your diet and workout routine, you should find ways to keep yourself motivated throughout the year!
3. Don't beat yourself up
Having a plan is essential, but not adapting when circumstances get on the way will cause tons of frustration that will likely make you give up on your plan.
When starting your journey, you should have a failure-ready mindset because I can guarantee that the path will not be linear. You have to be prepared for the ups and downs and to deal with things not going your way.
The bottom line is: learning from your failures will benefit you much more than beating yourself up. Be patient, trust the process and remember that minor missteps are just a natural part of it!
4. Share your resolutions
Even though this is probably the easiest tip to follow, it is still definitely very effective! All you have to do is talk about it. Why? Sharing your goals with friends, family and co-workers will help you stay accountable with your progress.
Try to find someone that has the same goals with you and dive into a shared journey with them! Having someone to share your struggles and successes with will make your journey much easier and less intimidating!
5. Ask for support
Let's face it; you don't know everything. You might know all about your goals and what you want to achieve, but you can't know everything. There's always something new that you can learn from the people around you, and cultivating a curious and open mind will make your journey much more valuable and enjoyable!
When setting your resolutions this year, start by making an honest assessment of your strengths and flaws. Ask yourself: what aspects of my plan I need help with? Don't be shy or ashamed to ask for support; it is not a sign of weakness is a sign of braveness!
