When I do a cardio machine interval workout, I turn to the elliptical because it uses the whole body and is lower impact for the joints. I personally use the Octane brand ellipticals for 2 reasons:

  • They have fans!
  • They have foot rests!

Cardio is something that is very undervalued and under-utilized in the winter seasons. It is important to keep yourself moving and active all year round. Cardio is great for heart health, burning fat, and building muscle–and must be done regularly.

Here is a great interval workout that I use on the elliptical to get my heart rate up and my get my body burning maximal calories so I can be in and out of the gym and get on with the rest of my day.

If you want to warm-up before your workout you can, or if it’s a cardio day, you can simply repeat the circuit several times to maximize your calorie output. If you're using an elliptical that doesn’t have foot rests, this workout will still work for you. Just remember that your strength will be coming from other parts of your body as a result.
