Aging was the motivator that inspired change for Loredana. She wasn't afraid of the number of her age, it was the number on the scale that she couldn't live with.
I woke up one morning and looked in the mirror and no longer recognized who I was seeing... being fat and forty something was not going to work for me. I was a busy Mom, wife and professional taking care of my family my house my business.
Loredana was at the bottom of a very busy life like most women in their 40s are. She knew a change had to be made but also knew that it was impossible to take the time away from everything else to only focus on that.
She began her journey by getting up very early and running around the neighbourhood (the only thing she knew about fitness at that point was eat less and move more). She did this for about 4 months at which point she decided to join Steve Nash where she could add resistance training and continue with her cardio. She also knew that there would be support there as well as others in the same boat so she would not feel alone.
Steve Nash is where the real change began. This is where I learned so much about training and equipment use when going beyond cardio. The environment motivates me and inspires new goals. I began my membership at the Davie and Howe location then trained in the Kitsilano club and I now train at Marine Gateway.
Loredana had many starts and stops but she found solace in the gym. To this day, she gets up at 4am to be at the gym by 5am. She is fitter, stronger and faster than her younger self. She still doesn't like to get out of bed at 4am, but knows that you have to do something different to get something different.
I have respect for anyone who is trying, it's not easy but it's worth it. I see myself in the women getting to the gym early carving their time. It makes me smile. I was them somewhere on the road to where I am today. If I can get to this place I believe anyone can achieve their goals in the right environment. I will always recommend Steve Nash as that environment.
Loredana is still setting targets and goals, and achieving them. She is defying the aging process without trying to live "young" or "growing old." Her motto is: it's not where you start, it's how you finish.
