On August 19, nine staff members from Steve Nash Fitness Clubs (plus a wonderful SNFC Mom) headed on a 586KM ride down the West Coast to Oregon in support of the Michael Cuccione Foundation.
There were seven riders, and three people in the support team vehicles.
The plan had been in place for months. The team was to ride 650KM from Lake Tahoe to Crater Lake. The route was planned, overnight stays were booked, and everyone was very excited.
Until the smoke rolled in.
With most of Western Canada and the States in the West covered in a blanket of smoke, it was necessary to find a new route.
You just don't get to experience this kind of thing on your own... being a part of this ride, this group of people, this experience was a real gift. I'm grateful to be part of a company that creates opportunities like this both for our individual employees and our community.
- Logan Dube, Director of Education, BCPTI
Instead, the team started at Steve Nash Morgan Crossing Sports Club, departing on a 4-day, 586km trip down to Cape Meares, Oregon.
It was one of the most mentally challenging, but yet rewarding, experiences of my life.
I loved when Kate told us we only had 10km left for the day, and seeing our support crew waiting for us at the hotel.
- Kelsey S., Personal Trainer and Fitness Manager
While the smoke may have made the ride a little slower, and tougher, it didn't hinder their spirits!
It made me feel accomplished and confident that I could achieve my fitness goals through mental strength.
- Kate M., HR Manager
