Group Fitness Instructor of the Month: Ciara O'Connor

We're a little behind in congratulating our Group Fitness Instuctor of the Month! Last month, the honour went to Ciara O'Connor. 

Ciara has been a Group Fitness Instructor at Steve Nash Fitness World for eight years now, instructing all group fitness classes, including specialty cycling classes. Teaching classes and motivating health in peoples lives has been a passion of Ciara's since she was young. She is dedicated and focused, with the hopes that she can encourage happiness and longevity in peoples lives.

Ciara has a desire to do better, be better, and it's been that committed attitude that has led her to have a mentor/take classes/sign up for workshops and do everything she can to improve her skills ––and it sure shows!! If you haven't been to her class lately, check it out! She subs when she can and rarely subs out her own classes, but most importantly, she cares about servicing our members the best she can! And it is so appreciated!

We asked Ciara a few questions:

WHAT ARE THE CLASSES YOU REGULARLY TEACH? WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE CLASS AND WHY?

Currently instructing Group Cycle and the works. It is very hard to pick a favourite class, I LOVE THEM ALL.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU BRING TO THE TABLE WHEN IT COMES TO INSPIRING YOUR CLASS MEMBERS? 

I carry a positive attitude with me at all times while acting as a role model. I respect all people and remain professional in all situations. I aim to provide the best and up-to-date knowledge to my participates while making each one of them feel important.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET INTO FITNESS & TEACHING?

My passions are working-out and caring for people. In 2010, I decided to become a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. I knew that I would love this job for the rest of my life.

HOW HAS GROUP FITNESS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE?

I found a real genuine and ultimate joy in my life.

WHAT’S YOUR FONDEST MEMORY FROM TEACHING AT SNFC?

The amount of people, managers, instructors, and facilities that I had the pleasure to become friends with and experience. My first club I started teaching at was at the North Shore location. I cherish those memories, as I was a new instructor and developed strong relationships with so many. I remember the crazy commutes I would do just to teach one class, but it was worth it.

WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE OUR MEMBERS ABOUT LEADING A HEALTHY AND ACTIVE LIFESTYLE?

Find an activity that you enjoy and do this as often as you can. Incorporate a healthy diet, adequate sleep, and plenty of water throughout the day. Step by step, you will become stronger, happier, and healthier. Have fun in what you do!

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR MEMBERS WHO ARE NEW TO GROUP FITNESS?

Part of our job is to build a positive warm environment for all people. Ask questions. Take your time and go at your own pace. Instructors will help and provide modifications to tailor to your needs. Group Fitness is aimed to encourage goodness and fun in your fitness and lifestyle.
