5 Personal Trainer Hacks to Help You Stick to a Healthy Diet this Year

2020 is here! Which means a new you, right? 

Well, one way to do that is by being HEALTHY. Your health and fitness are going to be a big goal for you this year, but did you know working out is only a PART of the equation? 

Your nutrition and diet is extremely important to your daily, physical, and mental health, especially for your 2020 fitness goals.

Check out these 5 hacks to help you stick to a healthy diet this year!

1. Hydrate!

Hydrate by drinking plain, simple water. Here are a couple of quick tips to ensure you are getting the right amount of water:

  • Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning. Your body craves it, that is why your mouth feels dry some mornings. One cup and it will be absorbed immediately.
  • Drink a glass before your meal. Drinking water before your meal will help with digestion as well as help you feel more full.

2. Don’t drink your calories

In relation to staying hydrated, make sure you are drinking mostly water. Avoid the unnecessary calories that come from sugary drinks like pop, juice and those fancy drinks at your local cafe. Void of any real nutritional value, the calories that you take in from those sweet drinks are mostly empty calories. Is it really worth it?

3. Eat breakfast

The line “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” was started years ago by Kelloggs in a campaign to sell their boxes of cereal. However, branding aside, breakfast is important. By definition, you are breaking your fast from the night as well as fuelling your body for a successful day. Don’t be afraid of carbs or clean fats for your breakfast because your body will use it for fuel soon, especially if you exercise in the morning.

4. Try a meal replacement

Low in calories and high in nutritional value, what have you got to lose? Those protein shakes can be for more than just supporting post exercise recovery. Having a meal replacement shake both satiates and curves the feeling of hunger and provides the essential nutrients from a meal. Some protein blends even come with a dose of greens to really complete the “meal replacement” definition. Grab a shaker bottle, pick your favourite flavour and shake up your eating habits.

5. Indulge without regrets

Cheat day exists for a reason. Keep it in your week and give yourself a day to indulge. Consider it a reward to yourself for the hard work you're putting in to live healthy
. Keep moderation in mind and eat what you like, don’t ruin your relationship with food just because a diet says so.
